Fans of the Bravo reality television contest series Top Chef will most likely remember Sara Mair as being an average, middle-running survivor throughout the first few episodes of the show, only beginning to make draw notable attention to herself after being paired up with Howie Kleinberg. She has been described as a dark horse contestant who kept her place in the middle of the pack, at least until she ran into problems with allegedly undercooked chicken. The trouble with the fowl put her into a foul spot, along with several other execution-related criticisms from the judges, and was enough to send her packing.
Mair has stated that she disagreed with the judges assessment of a chicken dish she prepared, with particular surprise at judge Gail Simmons proclamation that it was undercooked. Mair said that she did not argue very strongly against their opinion, though she still did not remain convinced that it was inadequately cooked. She refused to believe that it was raw, and said that it was more around medium instead. Mair emphatically added that she would not ever put raw chicken on the dining table, which some would consider reassuring, given the problems associated with diseases such as salmonella.

But on the other hand, Mair admitted that during the Quickfire Challenge of the episode, she undercooked the sea bass at the Le Cirque restaurant kitchen. Her nervousness was compounded with the hectic schedule of Friday evening, nine p.m. at the Le Cirque, and Mair also explained how she felt that kitchens were highly territorial workplaces. She says that she didnt blame the Le Cirque staff for practically giving her a cold shoulder, and that she probably would have done the same in their place. She also claims to have resolved her issues with Kleinberg, saying that they were grown adults who came away from the incident in a mature manner.
