Supernatural: Cohan and Cassidys Cuties
The upcoming season of the CW networks paranormal action drama Supernatural is set to introduce a pair of new cast members, strong female characters who will potentially act as a foil to the Winchester brothers. Actresses Lauren Cohan and Kate Cassidy gamely spoke up in an interview with IGN about the women theyre set to play, who have been described as both intense and seductive. Cohan was born in Philadelphia, and she described her character of Bela as a female version of the iconic detective Humphrey Bogart. She added that her character was not inclined to take the life of anyone, but this was mainly due to practical reasons.
But on the other hand, Bela is also capable of killing when she truly has to and theres no other alternative. To portray the character and her deadly talents, Cohan was given a regimen of weapons training, learning the art of stage combat with swords and numerous other sharp instruments, as she calls them. As a contrast, Cassidy stated that her own character of Ruby was both manipulative and slightly obsessed with being in control. Though just like Cohan, she also underwent training for weaponry and performing combat, especially with swords.
When initial word of the new characters came out, many speculated that they would be love interests for the Winchester brothers. However, the shows executive producer Eric Kripke stated that they were actually going to be antagonistic instead, and bringing a modicum of conflict into the mix. He did not leave out the possibility of romantic chemistry and sparks flying among men and the women, however. Though despite the fan controversy and hype, the concept of demon-hunting with the presence of attractive babes is nothing new to pop culture. One need only check out the Capcom video game series Devil May Cry, especially its own spin-off anime show which debuted this year, to see how it ought to be done.
