Fans of the MTV reality television series Runs House, revolving around the family life of self-styled reverend and musician Joseph Reverend Run Simmons, were treated to some choice literary treats from their favorite rap artist over the weekend. Last September 28, the 12th Annual Baltimore Book Festival was held at Mount Vernon Place, located at the 600 block of North Charles Street. Scheduled at five to nine in the evening, over 150 authors were featured at the event, which ran over the course of three days. Also included among these literary presences were Reverend Run and Justine Simmons, who is both his loving wife and co-star on the reality show.

Reverend Run is famous for being a co-founder and longtime member of the hip-hop group DMC, and he spoke about the inspirational book he authored, titled Words of Wisdom: Daily Affirmations of Faith. On the other hand, his spouse spoke up about her own collection of writings, God, Can You Hear Me? The two pillars of the hip-hop community were present during the Saturday of September 29th at three in the afternoon. Most of the open discussions, book readings and autograph signings were held at the Walters Art Museum.

Apart from the Simmons couple, numerous other writers also graced the festival with their presence. One familiar face to TV aficionados was Tim Gunn, the judge of the Bravo networks reality television competition series Project Runway. Gunn is likewise featured in his very own reality series based on the book he wrote, Tim Gunn: A Guide to Quality, Taste and Style. As for the other authors, among them were Nikki Giovanni, Jacqueline Wilson, and David Matthews. Both Reverend Runs Words of Wisdom and Justine Simmons Can You Hear Me? are published by Harper Collins, and are inspirational tomes aimed at helping people establish a stronger connection with God.
